Swine Study Tour

Sample Itinerary

 

 

 

Day 1
Afternoon arrival in Chicago. You will be met by your tour escort and motorcoach whom will both accompany you until your flight home. Travel southwards into bordering Indiana. Dinner forum with a director of the US Meat Export Federation.

Day 2
Morning visit to a feed mill that produces feed for livestock. Meet this morning with members of Illinois Pork Producers. Visit to meatpacking plant. Continue to western Illinois or eastern Missouri for overnight.

Day 3
Morning departure to northern Missouri. Visit large pork feedlot operations with shipping terminals. Continue to Des Moines for dinner and overnight.

Day 4
Today meet with major decision makers in the US pork industry. Des Moines is the headquarters for the National Pork Producers Association and National Pork Board / Pork Checkoff program.

Day 5
This morning travel to Iowa State University to visit the Sensory Evaluation Unit at the college’s Center for Designing Food to Improve Nutrition. Meet with a professor to learn about the latest research and technologies that impact food and its nutritional value. Remainder of day with visits associated with NPPC and National Pork Board.

Day 6
Morning departure to Chicago, visit John Deere Museum en route. Chicago city tour with ascension of Willis Tower, the tallest building in Chicago. Dinner and overnight in downtown Chicago.

Day 7
Visit to the Chicago Board of Trade to meet with a trader. Afternoon outlet mall shopping. Evening flight home.
